Kospo opens bids for higher heat biomass cargoes

South Korean state-controlled utility Korea Southern Power (Kospo) issued a second tender seeking biomass supplies for co-firing at its 4GW Hadong thermal power plant in next year's first quarte.r The utility is seeking 47,000t of wood pellets or woody biomass solid recovered fuel (SRF) pellets, with a minimum net calorific value (NCV) of 4,200 kcal/kg — higher than the 3,900 kcal/kg commonly used for industrial pellets. The plant consumes 600- 825 t/d of biomass but Kospo wants deliveries of 900 t/d within a mutually agreed time period within the first three months of 2018.
