European Parliament supports 35pc renewables in 2030

The European Parliament's energy committee today voted for a mandatory EU-wide share of renewables in final energy consumption of at least 35pc in 2030. But members rejected an amendment calling for binding individual targets set for EU member states. Parliament voted against amendments calling for clear mandatory renewable targets for individual member states. The committee wants EU countries to set their own targets so as to meet the EU's overall 2030 target renewable share of 35pc. And the European Commission could ask specific EU countries to increase their individual national target if EU officials conclude that the EU as a whole will not meet its 35pc target.
