Engie sells German,Dutch coal power plants

French utility Engie has signed an agreement with investment firm Riverstone for the sale of its three German coal-fired plants and its coal-to-biomass Rotterdam conversion plant in the Netherlands.The four plants have a combined capacity of 2,345MW and include the 350MW Farge,the 472MW Zolling and the 726MW Wilhelmshaven hard coal-fired units in Germany and the 731MW Rotterdam plant,for which Engie last year made a final investment decision on biomass co-firing,due to start in July.Engie and Riverstone expect the transaction to close in the second half of this year,subject to regulatory approval.The acquisition of Engie’s coal and biomass-fired power plants in Germany and Netherlands marks Riverstone's entry into the European power generation market.The firm has formed a new independent generator in the region-Onyx Strategic Investment Management.
