Waterborne prices in the US Atlantic coast turned lower this week on fresh trade. A cargo changed hands at $270-275/st delivered to the Mid- Atlantic, dragging cif prices in New York Harbor $17.5/st down in tandem. Current transatlantic arbitrage economics suggest the cargo may be loading in Europe but the loading date and location was unverifed. Current high-sulphur fuel oil (HSFO) prices in the Mediterranean make arbitrage shipments to the US workable, especially on larger ships, but a backwardated market structure has kept eastern buyers uninterested in tak- ing deliveries that may end up as costlier winter fll storage.
