Port operations on Canada's west coast were halted briefy today as operators and a key union reached a preliminary agreement over a long-running dispute. The British Columbia Maritime Employers Association (BCMEA)-issued lockout began at 11am ET and ended just before 1:45pm ET after a tentative deal was reached with In- ternational Longshore and Warehouse Union of Canada (ILWU). Canadian labor minister Patty Hajdu said the agreement was reached with the assistance of mediators from the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service.
