1,000 sand dams! An Excellent milestone

Since 2002, the NGO, Excellent Development, has pioneered the building of sand dams across the drylands of Africa and India. Callum Sheehan, who is Excellent's Programmes Officer, looks at various sand dams which have been built over the years as theNGO completes its 1,000 th. sand dam.Over the past 16 years, Excellent Development has been working with partners across Kenya, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Sudan, Chad, Swaziland and India. Our main focus has been to enable the building of sand dams in these arid and semi-arid lands toprovide access to clean water and all its resulting benefits. These include greater access to education, improved agriculture, alternative incomes and healthier communities.
