The set of palaces that make up the Reales Alcazares of Seville were built successively over a span of nearly 1000 years. Traditional methods, such as using comparisons between architectural styles and most often imprecise historical texts, had established the origin and evolution of this royal complex still in use. Architectural archaeology techniques have radically altered traditional conclusions, building a completely new framework for the evolution of the complex and providing new dates on its origin and evolution. However, archaeological dating techniques are not as precise as needed; therefore, a Bayesian modeling approach has been carried out with radiocarbon and luminescence samples in combination with other relative dating techniques achieving important results.
