ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES/Manufacturing wood plastic composites using recycled medium density fibreboard

The UK's Waste & Resources Action Programme (WRAP) has introduced a project to demonstrate whether recycled medium density fibreboard (MDF) can be used in place of virgin wood flour in the manufacture of wood plastic composites (WPCs). The project, which is being conducted by Impact Laboratories, will include a test programme to demonstrate whether the WPCs manufactured with recycled MDF are of comparable quality to those currently available in the market. Further, the project will assess whether it is economically and environmentally beneficial to use recycled MDF, which would otherwise be sent to landfill or incineration.
