Flow International Corp, USA, is to supply a multiaxis composite machining centre, abrasive waterjet and routing machine tool system to Airbus UK's Filton plant, near Bristol. Airbus' UK operation is responsible for design and manufacture of the composite wings and fuel systems for the Airbus A350 passenger aircraft. Under a multimillion dollar contract, the system will be delivered in approximately one year's time and will be used to machine carbon fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP) spars for the wing structures of the A350. Under a prior contract, -awarded in December 2005, Flow's waterjet system is to be used to machine the A350's CFRP wing structures.
