Scientists at the University of Michigan (U-M), USA, are researching a type of reinforced concrete that provides improved performance compared to standard concrete. The material has already been. used to retrofit a bridge in Michigan, the university team says. The researchers - led by Professor Victor Li -say that the ductile concrete is 500 times more resistant to cracking and 40 percent lighter in wzeight compared with standard concrete. It is also 37% cheaper to manufacture, consuming 40 percent less energy and producing 39 percent less carbon dioxide than regular concrete.
