The production potential of tall wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) is low because it is less responsive to high inputs due to lodging problem. On the other hand, area under cultivated fodder crops in India is limited which is not sufficient to meet the fodder requirement of the huge number of livestock. Thus, a field experiment was carried out to assess the response of tall wheat to cutting and nitrogen management practices at Research area of Department of Agronomy, CCS Haryana Agricultural University, Hisar during rabi seasons of 2015-16 and 2016-17. The experiment was laid out in a randomized block design (RBD) with 3 replications and 18 treatment combinations of two stubble heights (5 and 10 cm) of cutting, two nitrogen rates (60 and 75 kg N/ha) andfour scheduling viz. sowing1/2 + 1st irrigation]/2 sowing1/2 + after cut1/2 sowing]/3 + after cut2/3 and sowing1/3 + 1st irrigation1/3 + after cut1/3 during the rabi season of 2015-16 and 2016-17. Study concluded that highest productivity, nitrogen uptake, protein content and B: C ratio were observed under 10 cm stubble height with 75 kg N/ha scheduled at sowing1/3 + after cut2/3. The results are expected to allow change in wheat monoculture.
