摘要

Among various lignocellulosic residues, rice straw is a potent source for ethanol production as it is one of the most abundant materials on the earth. For the maximum production of reducing sugar, a best suited pretreatment method is needed. Generally, various methods of pretreatment are being employed now-a-days which may include physical, chemical, physico-chemical and biological. Here in this study, chemical i. e. dilute hydrochloric acid and sodium hydroxide were applied on rice straw powder. The effect of these pretreatment methods was determined by the compositional analysis of biomass before and after the pretreatments. As cellulose content found to be increased and lignin portion was decreased maximum after alkali pretreatments, so it suited well for efficient pretreatment of rice straw. The effect of acid and alkali pretreatment on rice straw was observed using Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy and Scanning Electron Microscopy.
