A giant fusiform aneurysm of the external carotid artery branch in an infant.

Aneurysms of the external carotid artery are quite uncommon in the general population, and they are even more rare in infants. A mass appearing in the carotid region can be of neurogenic, vascular, or lymphatic origin. Extracranial carotid artery (CA) aneurysms are very rare. The majority of extracranial CA aneurysms have been reported in adults, and they account for only 0.5%approx1.9% of all CA operations [1]. Only five cases involved external CA aneurysms [2] (Table 1). We present an extremely rare case of an external CA aneurysm presenting with a palpable submandibular mass in an infant.
