A methodology for repairing random areas of damage to one-piece carbon fibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP) aircraft components has been developed by Boeing Co of Seattle, Washington, USA. Commercial aircraft may be damaged by bird strikes, ground handling equipment, debris and hail, which can create holes and tears in the aircraft's external skin and cause damage to its underlying stiffening substructure.
