TenCate and BASF form strategic alliance for thermoplastic automotive composites

TenCate Advanced Composites of Nijverdal, The Netherlands, and BASF of Ludwigshafen, Germany, are to cooperate on the development, production and commercialization of thermoplastic composites suitable for high-volume vehicle production. As part of the alliance, BASF will contribute its expertise in the formulation and production of thermoplastic resins in order to develop variants of its Ultramid polyamide (PA), Ultradur poly-butylene therephthalate (PBT) and Ultrason poly-ethersulphone (PESU) product lines. TenCate will contribute its expertise in composites manufacturing. Together, the two companies will develop unidirectional (UD) tapes, prepregs and laminates based on these resin systems.
