Gastric cancer is an important problem and is worldwide one of the most frequently-diagnosed cancers [1, 2]. Although the incidence of gastric cancer has been declining in the last decades, gastric cancer still accounts for approximately 10% of aE cancers and is responsible for approximately 12% of al! cancer deaths . The incidence of gastric cancer varies substantially among racial and ethnic groups and is the highest in Japan, Korea, Eastern Asia, Eastern Europe, and parts of Latin America. Western Europe, the USA and other industrialised nations have relatively low incidences.
