The phenomenon of barium sulfate scale deposition on a steel surface has been investigated for many years. However, there is still a lack of information about the influence of corrosion inhibitors on barium sulfate scale formation and impact of the scale on the corrosion kinetic. Barium sulfate is a common deposit, particularly in the production of oil on off-shore wells. Popular theory assumes that formation of a scale could be used to passivate the surface to corrosion. Though, relevant studies have to be done in order to estimate the background of this phenomenon.
