GLASS COATING TECHNOLOGY IMPROVES SOLAR ENERGY YIELD

Solar energy is one of the most promising sources of alternative energy. Over the past few decades, the share of solar power in the total energy generated worldwide has steadily increased due to increasing installations of photovoltaic panels across the world. Photovoltaic, or diodes is employed in solar cells for generating electricity from light. At present, it is an important technology for production of green power. Current solar power technology is not adequately efficient in solar energy conversion and its use in large-scale electricity generation is expensive. Hence, it cannot compete with fossil fuels or large electric grids. Presently, wafer-based silicon cells dominate the solar cell market the single crystal cells are costly. Hence, thinner films with higher conversion efficiencies are needed to reduce the cost. One of the biggest focus areas in solar energy research and development is to increase efficiency of solar panels. Also, the conventional material for panel coatings is not optimal for all kinds of installations. Hence, the solar energy industry has an urgent need for coatings with high anti-reflective (AR) properties, which can improve solar energy yield.
