摘要

The search for new oil and gas sources is perpetually expanding across the seas. Metal structures such as oil rigs are constructed to conduct drilling activities to facilitate research expeditions. Due to its location, steel at the splash zones of marine structures are constantly exposed to corrosive environments such as splash, tidal, seawater, and sea mud zones. This exposure would subject the steel to severe corrosive damage caused by the wave impacts, ample oxygen supplies, cathodic protection deficiency, and continually wetting and drying of the salt spray on the structures. Therefore, a lot attention has been focused onto the protection of steel structures to ensure long durability and safety.
