Solar photovoltaic panels and other solar applications offer valuable clean and renewable energy. Research and development (R&D) focus on solar energy is toward increasing the efficiency of solar panels-a dormant source that reduces the efficiency of solar panels is dirt deposition. Google recently studied the effect of dirt deposition on solar panel efficiency by using the panels in their headquarters. They cleaned the flat solar panels 15 months after installation, and found that power output doubled overnight after cleaning. Google's study emphasizes the importance of a clean transparent surface on a solar panel. Hence, solar panels frequently require manual cleaning to provide optimum performance.
