Coatings offer decorative, protective, and special purpose coatings to the applied surfaces. Special purpose coatings include luminous coatings that glow in the dark for emergency signage, and fire-resistant coatings to provide fire protection to combustible surfaces. Fire-resistant coatings also act as thermal barriers for foam plastics. However, for high-thermal protection, there are other parameters to be considered - durability at normal and elevated temperatures, smoke hazards, and structural stability of the coatings.
