The applications of nanomaterials impart special features and attributes to coatings. The recent technology advancements in this area are summarized below: The National Centre of Performing Arts in Beijing is an astonishing architecture miracle in China. However, the cleaning solution for the glass and titanium exterior wall used was a huge challenge. Coatings containing nanoparticles were chosen to be applied on the panel surface. This nanocoating contains a photocatalyst that is able to decompose bird droppings and dirt. The exterior wall then becomes a self-cleaning surface with rainfall. The nanocoating is proven as a more cost-effective and easy maintenance solution than the previous robot-cleaning proposal.
