Dear Editor,I read with great interest the article "Traumatic brain injuries in illustrated literature: experience from a series of over 700 head injuries in the Asterix comic books" by Kamp and coworkers [4] and would like to thank the authors for then-tedious but certainly in more than one way rewarding work. I would like to draw your attention to another neurosurgery related topic in popular culture namely three cases of neuro-radiology depicted in the German comic book series "Lustige Taschenbucher" (Funny Paperbacks).Case 1 Uncle Scrooge's memory loss prompts an examination of his brain (Lustiges Taschenbuch 24, pp. 101-168, Ehapa, 1973). The physician points a fluoroscopy machine toward his head and diagnoses a "...partial dystrophy of the lateral temporal lobe" (Fig. la). No therapy is available and according to the treating physician "...only a miracle..:" can save his memory. However, an injection prepared by Gyro Gearloose restores his memory.Case 2 During the clinical work-up of Uncle Scrooge's ongoing parosmia, his nasal cavity is examined with an "instant x-ray machine" (Lustiges Taschenbuch 39, pp. 13-52, Ehapa, 1976). Avegetative impairment of the mucous membrane caused by longstanding exposure to gold is visualized (Fig. lb). A transplantation of mucous membrane is carried out to avoid anosmia. In error, he receives the mucous membrane of a watchdog which recovers and enhances his smelling abilities.
