SOMETIMES, WE JUST WANT TO SLOW THE MIND, restore calm at a crazy time, or adjust our thinking a bit. At such times, I recommend taking a "pretty book" off the library shelf and feasting on the portraits of beautiful roses and rose gardens.I found two such books on the shelves of the Schorr Rose Research & Horticulture Library at the American Rose Center by one author whose talents I greatly admire - Carolyn Parker. Those talents were first exhibited in her career as a fashion designer where she says, "silk and velvet were my fertile soil." Then she and her family moved into their Lafayette, Californiahome where she "stepped passionately into the role of gardener." Her garden thrived and, artist that she is, she began to photograph her roses, her garden, and the lovely baskets and bouquets of roses that she created and sold through her small flower business.
