It took an Act of Congress in 1992 to tack "and Prevention" onto the Centers for Disease Control's (CDC) name to recognize the part of their mission that addresses "illness and disability before they occur." Though Congress also held that the CDC acronym should remain the same you will learn in this issue of The Art of Health Promotion that prevention remains a robust part of CDC's agenda and that the workplace has been deemed by CDC's scientists to be a uniquely opportunistic venue for protecting the public's health.
