Sonangol seeks new Cameia developer after cut-price Cobalt purchase

Sonangol is now looking tor a new operator to develop a series of deepwater pre-salt discoveries after agreeing a cut-price deal to buy the acreage from Cobalt International. The Angolan national oil company agreed to pay US $1.75 Bn to buy Cobalt's stakes in Blocks 20 and 21 in 2015 but it was unable to raise the cash and the sale fell through, in turn breaking Cobalt's finances and it was forced into Chapter 11 bankruptcy earlier this month.
