Two steps forward and one back for VAALCO Gabon

VAALCO has been hit by new problems with production at its Etame block off Gabon. The company's first electrical submersible pump (ESP) problems began back in 2011 on the Avouma field. Since then another pump failed on a well on Avouma and also at South Tchibala. VAALCO had taken the precaution of a secondary ESP at Avouma as a back-up, but this too failed only 10 days after it was started up.
