Octant Energy is trying to find a partner for its shallow water acreage off Kenya where it must drill a well by next April. The company is headed by Richard Schmitt who was previously in charge of Black Marlin which owned the acreage - Blocks L17/L18 - until they were bought as part of a larger deal by Afren for US $101m in 2011. About $115m was spent by Afren on the blocks but Octant then paid less than $ 10m to acquire them after Afren went under.
