Electric current leads placed in the vacuum spaceare often used in cryogenic systems. A complex analysis of thethermal processes in the leads is a difficult problem. Simplifyingconditions were determined and a numerical procedure was writtenfor the evaluation of the main heat flows and temperaturedistribution. The procedure was tested using other availablemethods and was also verified in several experiments. Asatisfactory agreement between the calculated and measured datawas found. Importance of the heat radiation in certain leadconfigurations was found . some problems arose as regards theanalysis of a copper conductor in a special configuration. Thesolution of several factual problems concerning the current leadsdesign is described and the results are discussed. 2000 ElsevierScience Ltd. All rights reserved.
