To ensure the feasibility of the introduction of superconductivity into electric power systems, the reliability of the electrical insulation must be incorporated in the design from the early beginning of the development of any superconducting power equipment. The compilation and analysis of valuable background data are considered to be very important to this end. This paper deals with specification of electrical cryogenic insulation, and with general and systematic guidelines for the design of power transmission cables, coils and fault current limiters, which are promising for power systems.
