Crystal structure and luminescent properties of novel coordination polymers constructed with bifurandicarboxylic acid

Four novel coordination polymers (CPs) assembled with [2,2'-bifuran]-5,5'- dicarboxylic acid (H_2L) and metal ions Zn~(II), Cd~(II) or Co~(II) have been successfully synthesized. Their molecular structures have been determined to be Zn(L)(H_2O)_2 (1), [Zn(L)(DMF)]_2 (2), [Cd(L)(EtOH)(DMF)_2]_2 (3) and Co(L)(H_2O)_4·(H_2O)_2 (4) by crystallographic analysis. It is found that (2) exhibits a two-dimensional infinite framework, whereas the others exhibit a onedimensional framework. Both (2) and (3) exhibit ligand-based emission which is blue-shifted compared with the emission from the H_2L ligand. Time-resolved spectroscopic measurement reveals that the complexes exhibit a similar lifetime with that of the ligand, which confirms that the emission of the complexes originates from the ligand.
