A low-cost space-qualified superfluid helium dewar

Ball Aerospace and Technologies Corporation hasdeveloped a low-cost long-life Superfluid Helium (SiHe) Dewar(LLD) for space applications. The lineage of this dewar from otherBall-developed cooling systems and technologies flown in spacewill be discussed. Test results also will be given showing theperformance of the dewar in a simulated space environment. Thisdewar is the basis for the current design of the Space InfraredTelescope Facility (SIRTF) Cryogenic Telescope Assembly.
