A capacitance temperature sensor for the liquid nitrogen region

A capacitance temperature sensor based on commercial manufactured ceramic condensers was found, satisfying most of the demands for the absolute temperature measurement at 77 K. Beside linear, relatively good sensitivity in liquid nitrogen (LN_2) temperature range and virtually no magnetic field dependence, the sensor could be simply fixed to a specimen using thermally conductive glue. The self-heating of the sensor is negligibly small, of the order of nW. The sensitivity of capacity measurement provides 0.02 K resolution.
