Rudolf Steiner must certainly be counted among an elite group of humans that has "used his head for something besides a hat rack" (as my father was fond of saying). He was a remarkably complex and gifted man, who spent his life figuring things out -all manner of "things" spiritual and physical - always with attention to their scientific correctness. The scope of this paper is too narrow for a comprehensive account of the life of this remarkable man. My intent is to convey, as best I can, his accomplishment, his intensity, and his challenge to those who have come after him. One need not accept a single thing he taught or agree with any of his conclusions to appreciate the scope of his accomplishments. The sheer volume of his writings and lectures on an impressive array of subjects is overwhelming in and of itself.
