In my lecture, I would like to give an impression of the 60-year history of the Institute and of my 60 years being there from the very beginning, with a few examples chosen subjectively, as it is impossible to show even an incomplete picture in the time available. First, let me present the short - and very short indeed - history and the directors of the Institute. In 1883 Endre Hogyes introduced teaching of bacteriology on the Medical Faculty of the Pazmany Peter University of Sciences shared with the subject and institute of pathology; at that time, the latter was located on Rakos Street (now Hogyes Endre Street) in the building of the Hungarian Pasteur Institute.
