In China, steel prices generally followed a downward trend in June due to sluggish demand and high production. As steel prices dropped, high-cost EAF mills started to cut production as profitability turned negative while BF-BOF mills were approaching breakeven point by mid- June. Consequently, capacity utilisation rates decreased only marginally, and steel production stayed at high levels.
