Even though the nationwide lockdown in India, which started on 25 March, has been extended until 17 May, the government has allowed some regional industrial activity to resume. The regional opening is based on a three-phase matrix that classifies each of the 700+ districts in India into green, orange and red zones. Each of the colours represents specific opening guidelines that are set based on the current number of Covid-19 cases and the growth rate in cases. For instance, public transport services can resume in green zones, are restricted in orange zones and completely suspended in red zones. Non-essential manufacturers will be allowed to restart operations once their operating zone has been designated as green.
