Historical control data on prenatal developmental toxicity studies in rats: Data of Wistar Hannover rats during 2011–2015

As a part of a research for historical control data on prenatal developmental toxicity studies based on the studies conducted in Japan during 2011–2015, the results for Wistar Hannover rats (RccHan:WIST and BrlHan:WIST@Jcl(GALAS)) will be reported. Data on Wistar Hannover rats were offered by six out of 24 test facilities which answered our inquiries. The average pregnancy rate, number of corpora lutea, implantations, live fetuses, and fetal mortality were in the ranges of 90.0–100.0%, 12.8–14.3, 10.8–13.0, 10.5–12.3 and 3.5–7.5%, respectively. The incidences of fetuses with external, visceral, and skeletal malformations were in the ranges of 0.00–0.48%, 0.35–32.7% and 0.00–2.03%, respectively. These basic data provide detailed characteristics of the animals used and their accumulation should be useful to evaluate study results.
