Long-term specificity and stability of somatic delusions in delusional disorder, somatic type

Delusional disorder, somatic type (DDST), alsoknown as monosymptomatic hypochondriacal psychosis(MHP), is characterised by somatic delusionswhich are sustained over a considerable period,sometimes for many years (1,2). It has been suggestedthat the somatic delusions in DDST are sospecific and stable, e.g. a worm delusion does notturn into a delusion of ugliness or smell (1). However,there have been very few objective data tosupport this characteristic of DDST. We report aDDST patient, in whom specificity and stability ofsomatic delusions for almost 30 years were confirmedobjectively.
