A31 -year-old man was admitted to the emergency department (ED) following a motor vehicle accident in which he had sustained multiple bilateral long-bone fractures of the lower extremities. These included fractures of the right distal tibia and the right proximal fibula, as well as open fractures of the left tibia and left fibula (Figure 1).
