Batteries will be at the forefront of the EU's efforts to move to a zero carbon economy and to achieving many aspects of the European Green Deal.It is up to our industry to work with the European Commission and European parliamentarians to ensure that companies can invest in research and development, continue to grow and to compete on a world stage.Politicians discuss creating a batteries eco-system in Europe-creating the most sustainable and high-performing batteries in the world. This is the right goal and the battery industry supports efforts to develop new generations of rechargeable energy storage to meet a range of low carbon and other industrial needs. But to create a competitive eco-system you need supportive regulation and a desire to nurture a wide range of battery technologies. One size does not fit all.Above all we need coherence in policy-making and regulation to avoid singling out individual battery chemistries when we need to encourage innovation and growth, while encouraging responsible stewardship and greater environmental awareness.
