One of the challenges facing our planet is the effect of rising CO2 levels in the atmosphere.In this article we look at plug-in and self-charging hybrids to see how effective they are in helping to bring down our personal carbon footprint.The imperatives driving the vehicle electrification initiative can be summarised by the European Roadmap:Electrification of Road Transport 2nd Edition,which says that road transport produces almost a quarter of all of the greenhouse gas(GHG)emissions attributable to all human activity.This,in fact,is 4% of the entire GHG emissions on the planet.The current version of the European Roadmap has four milestones(Fig 1)to be achieved by 2025.
