Industry raises concerns over impact on energy storage systems.ANEW standard developed by the US National Fire Protection Association(NFPA)was a top talking point for delegates at this year's Battcon conference in Florida.A newsletter circulated among datacentre chiefs had expressed concern that the new standard could have a major impact on the use of batteries in UPS systems.”If adopted as written,the standard has the potential to disrupt all datacentre construction in all jurisdictions that have adopted NFPA standards,”the newsletter warned.Brian O'Connor,an NFPA fire protection engineer,said in an article in the NFPA journal the scope of the standard applied to several technologies and to energy storage systems of a certain size or capacity.
