’Reliable recycling targets needed’as waste count rises

For the reference year 2015,the study prepared for the European Commission showed the amount of batteries(in tonnes)per use-category(portable,industrial or automotive)that were placed on the market,collected and recycled,allowing losses to become visible.This calculation reveals that a large amount of portable batteries(around 35,000 tonnes yearly or 16% of the amount of placed-on-the-market,212,000 tonnes,in 2015 and 41% of the amount collected,84,ooot,in 2015)end up in municipal waste instead of being collected for recycling.
