Anomalous left hepatic vein draining into coronary sinus imaged with multidetector computed tomography.

A 61-year-old African American woman recently diagnosed with congestive heart failure was referred for workup and management of her heart failure. Her nuclear stress test demonstrated a questionable small area of reversible ischemia in the anterior wall. A gated cardiac computed tomography (CT) using a 64-slice multidetector scanner was subsequently performed to evaluate for obstructive coronary disease. The cardiac CT revealed minimal, nonobstructive plaque within the left anterior descending artery. However, it also showed an anomalous drainage of the left hepatic vein into an enlarged coronary sinus (Fig. 1). The inferior vena cava (IVC) received the middle and right hepatic veins and normally connected to the right atrium. No coronary vein anomaly or persistent left superior vena cava (SVC) was present.
