The experiment with mango cv. Tommy Atkins was carried in Livarmento N. Senhora, from Nov/95 to Nov/96, with the objective of evaluating the flowering, number of fruit per panicles, per plant, average fruit weight, production of fruit and economicalaspects. Five randomly chosen plots of four plants each were treated with three applications of 3% potassium nitrate (KNO_3) at differing time intervals (a sixth plot served as control): no treatment, one, three, five, seven, nine days of intervals. Theeffect of (KNO_3) in the anticipation of the flowering; the number of fruits per panicle did not vary from one treatment to another; all plots treated with (KNO_3) presented higher numbers of fruits per tree, with no significant differences among them during the harvest of Sept/96 and in the total production; it was observed that the average fruit weight was not affected by (KNO_3) treatments; (KNO_3) treatments promoted higher production per tree and also greater relation benefit/cost and higher rentability.
