Testing of apple cultivars for plant breeders' rights.

Tests for granting plant breeders' rights are carried out at the testing station Wurzen of the Bundessortenamt (Federal Office of Plant Varieties). They are based on field trials lasting four years. During the tests a number of morphological characteristics are observed or measured and compared with those of similar cultivars in order to prove whether the requirements of distinctness, uniformity and stability are fulfilled.
