New dwarfing and semi-dwarfing Pillnitz apple and pear rootstocks.

Three new dwarfing and semi-dwarfing Pillnitz apple and pear rootstocks are described. The dwarfing rootstocks are Supporter 1, Supporter 2 and Supporter 3, while the semi-dwarfing rootstocks are Pi-AU 36-2, Pi-AU 51-4, Pi-AU 51-11 and Pi-AU 56-83.Results of different trials conducted on the rootstocks are discussed. The new rootstocks are more frost resistant than quince rootstocks. They are easy to propagate and can be propagated by green cuttings and in vitro. They are satisfactorily compatiblewith several cultivars. An appendix containing details on the origin, disease resistance and main characteristics of each new rootstock is presented.
