Present state of street trees in Oujda city (eastern Morocco): special case of plane tree

The most common street trees in Oujda city, are Sophora japonica which represent 20% of the total number of the trees. Ceratonia siliqua comes in the second place with 17%, followed by Schinus molle with 16%. One problem that the leaders of the local community should take in consideration, is the sanitary state of the alignment trees. Indeed several species are damaged. The damage can be evaluated to 40% for Platanus acerifolia, 30% for Morus alba, 25% for Ailanthus altissima, 10% for Schinus molle and 8% for Ceratonia siliqua. The most affected trees are the Planes. The deterioration noticed little later progress with an anxious speed. The factors that may contribute to the deterioration of planes as well as to the other trees species are as follows: trees' age, drought, high calcareous amount of the ground, sewage, and parasites attacks.
