An approach to developing an integrated system for disease warnings

An integrated PC-based system giving crop disease warnings developed at HRI, East Malling, UK is described. The approach is mainly based on biological and epidemiological considerations. The warning system was separated into distinct related modulesdealing with weather, host and pathogen, farm management, disease development, user interface and a dynamic-linking shell. This modular structure allows easy expansion to incorporate new models. This approach has been successfully used to develop AdemTM, an apple disease warning system.
